Introductory course on GiD
This course is addressed to the user that have little/no experience in using GiD.
The course is planned for February 17th 2004 and is expected to be tree hour long distributed in the following topics:

Time Topic Description
10:00
GiD Introduction
What's GiD? In this part are described the basic elements that define the GiD processing: Geometry & Data = GiD processing . The data concepts: conditions, materials, interval and general data are also introduced.
10:15
Geometric Modeling
In this topic are described the different geometric entities that GiD can handle. The most important editor commands used to create and modify the entities are covered as well as the importing and repairing options. A few examples will be covered for both, creating a model inside GiD and importing from CAD.
11:00
Data application
It is used the problemtype RamSeries ,a structural analysis code, to show the main features to apply loads, boundary conditions, materials, etc. Check the applied conditions, verify normals, etc.
11:25 coffee break
11:40
Mesh generation
Several mesh generation methods used inside GiD are shown and how it is possible to tune them up in order to fit the given meshing needs. Type of elements, control of mesh sizes, etc.

12:00
Result visualization
Describes some relevant aspects of the postprocessing step and the way to load results from a numerical analysis into GiD . Structure of results: analysis, steps, scalars, vectors, etc. Types of visualization: contours, iso-surfaces, vectors, tensors, animations, etc. Configurable options.
12:45
Customization basic concepts
This topic is about the basic ideas to interface with an external code. Here an introduction is given to: creating a problem type, defining data files, output template (.bas) and writing file results, all guided through a simple example.
13:00 Questions A time for the students to ask any question and review the basic course concepts.

Advanced course on GiD
This course is addresed to the GiD users that have experience in using GiD and specially to the "problem type" developers. The course is planned for February 17th 2004 and is expected to be three hour long distributed in the following topics:

Time
Topic
Description
15:00
Geometric Modeling & Mesh Generation Review of entities types. A special attention is devoted to importing, repairing and meshing complex geometric models. Optimizing mesh. Control of element sizes. Non conforming meshes.

15:45
Result visualization Advanced options in postprocessing: cuts, stream lines, graphs, animations, overview of the result file format and the gidpost library, etc.
16:30 coffee break
16:45
Advanced customization 1 Problem type creation: Using the Tcl/Tk extension to GiD. How to create new windows, modify menus, icon bars. Common dialogs, GiD Units
17:30
Advanced customization 2 More about problemtypes: Add a customized help, Translation details, Draw with OpenGL from Tcl, modification of standard data windows with Tkwidget.
18:15 Questions A time for the students to ask any question and review the advanced course concepts.

The courses includes "hands on" tutorial on PC's in order to follow and apply the different course topics. The presentation is in Spanish, but the documentation is provided in Spanish or English.

In order to attend this course, you must register and select the course from "order products". (the registry form is the same as the GiD Conference one)
