[GiDlist] questions about post process

Post by Rama Karve »

Hi,

I have a couple of questions.

1. Is there a way to reload the .res file in postprocess mode. I want to
modify the results file when I am already in postprocess and I want the
changes to be reflected in the results.

2. When does GiD override the limits calculated from the results (for
contour fill, for example). I have this result file (see attached
.flavia.res file and the mesh). When I try to display contour fill, it
uses the default limits and does not display anything. I guess there is
some error, but I cannot figure out what it is.

Thanks,
Rama Karve

[GiDlist] questions about post process

Post by Enrique Escolano »

1- If you retun to preprocess and change to postprocess, your *.flavia.res results file is reloaded.
You can also write a *.flavia.msh file, and then can load this mesh and the results with Files-Open (from the postprocess menu)
2- When you display a contour fill, the default limits are the maximum and minimum of your results, but in your sample, this values
are located at the interior box, and the outbox hide it.
Must use "Utilitities-Graphical-Clip Planes" to view this inbox.

Note: You can also override this automatic max and min limits, setting a user value (by pressing the red or blue icon buttons), but remember to restore after the automatic limits (press the rainbow button located under the red and blue icons).

[GiDlist] questions about post process

Post by Rama Karve »

Hi,
Ok, I dont know what I am doing wrong, but I get the following output
with a message in the command history (at the bottom of the screen)
saying -

"Contour Fill E_normal(V/cm): Min = 0.5381, Max = 324.86
but now, using these limits: Min = 3.4028e+038, Max -3.4028e038"

I hope the explanation of my problem makes sense,
Thanks,
Rama Karve

p.s. What is the technique to get a smooth contour plot?

[GiDlist] questions about post process

Post by Rama Karve »

Hi Miguel / Enrique,

Well..I was not using the latest version but I figured out what was
happening. I had not defined a .flavia.msh file because I wanted to use
the mesh from preprocess. Now I created a .flavia.msh with the same
mesh, and it worked!!

I dont know if this is an issue (or if its a characteristic of the older
version), because this did not happen with some other similar examples I
worked with.

Anyway, thanks so much for your help. I will now upgrade to the new beta.

Regards,
Rama
