Error installing GiD on Windows 11 with ARM

Post by Fdolorenzo »

I am trying to install GiD17.1.2d-win-x64-Install on a Microsoft Surface Pro 11 (built on the ARM64 processor) but I am getting the following error:

Error: "This program can only be installed on versions of Windows designed for the following processor architectures: x64"

Upon checking I know that the latest windows 11 emulates x64. However it appears that the GiD install checks the processor architecture and refuses to install. My question is: will it be possible to modify the check in the install program to allow for the installation in windows ARM processor?

I have seen that you have built a Linux version tailored to the ARM processor? Obviously, I would not mind testing it and report back to GiD on its behavior.

Thanks and best regards,

For those interested, I tried to see if the error message existed with older versions, and discovered that GiD version 14 can be installed in a windows 11 installed in a Microsoft Surface 11 with an ARM64 processor.
Anything newer than 14, and the installer complains that the windows version is no x64.

Thanks!

We never tried to run GiD Windows x64 on a Windows platform with ARM64 processor

You can install GiD in a Windows machine allowed by the installer, and simply do a zip of the GiD folder
(e.g. C:\Program Files\GiD\GiD 17.1.2d)
and copy it the the ARM64 Windows machine.
and try to run gid.exe

Please, let us know if it works.
