Mesh does not display

I followed the tutorial, the mesh is generated (I get the report on the number of mesh elements), but for some reason it does not show up. I enabled "safe visualization mode", I'm aware of "View-->Mode-->Geometry/Mesh", what am I missing? If I set "View-->Label-->All on" I don't see mesh labels either. I run GID 17.0.1 under Windows 11.

try creating a simple rectangle and mesh it with Mesh->Generate mesh...
Are you able to see the mesh?
