Fw: [GiDlist] Question about postprocess mesh format: elemen

It is valid to have non sequential numeration for nodes/elements and also
jumps (unused numbers)

The only think you must be careful is avoid to use very big numbers, because
with the current implementation
a consecutive vector with the maximum number is allocated, and you can waste
a lot of memory !!

Hello,
I have another question about the postprocess mesh format:
- the ‘element number’ in the elements section must be sequential and
in
increasing order in each mesh? What about jumps in the sequence?

Yes,
node and element numbers can be non sequential, but you must take care of
following:

  • for node numbers, do not use a very big number, because, as Enrique sais,
is allocates the whole vector for node_number_1 until biggest_node_number.

  • for both, nodes and elements, it is preferable to use unique numbers,
i.e., do not use the same element number, for instance, for a triangle and a
    tetrahedron.

Hello GiD team,

I’m stil using GiD 8.0.2.

Let me know how I can start up two GiD sessions simultaneously
without interfering each other, e.g. foo.gid and goo.gid.

My wish is to view some gid geometry in foo.gid as a reference
and to work new model in another goo.gid window.

I don’t understand what’s the problem:
You can start two GiDs with two different models without any interference
not?

Thanks for the quick reply.

To be honest, sorry I did not test to start two GiD sessions yet.

I know that GiD using the Temp directory, for example,
c:/Documents and Settings/$(my user name)/Local Settings/Temp/gid2.
If one GiD session locks some files in the Temp, I am guessing another
GiD session will meet some difficulty. Not?

Best regards,

You can start as many GiD as you want without interferences, they will use
different temporary folders.

The only interference is that the gid.ini user preferences are shared by all
GiD’s
(GiD read this preferences file when starting, and save it when exit)

Hello,

As Jesus already said, we released a few days ago the first beta version of
GiD for Mac OS X using Apple’s Aqua interface. The previous X11 interface
has been dropped out in favour of Mac OS X’s native interface.

This version is a x86 32bit one and was build on a Intel Mac-mini with Mac
OS X 10.5.6

You can download it from our web site:

(Download – GiD beta versions – Other Systems)

This is a minor bug I found on post-processing vector data. When you try to draw any vector data (using contour fill, iso-lines, etc) the menu does not refresh it contents unless you click an area outside GID (i.e., desktop). But after the first attempt the menu does not refresh at all, so you need to exit post-process and reenter again.

Included: Gid Problem Type (2d_Potential_Flow.gid.zip), Example with results (2dvalvle_2gid.zip) and a video showing this problem (GidBug01.m4v).

Please also let me know if I can send large file to this email address for future bug report, or If you have a special repository.

I would like to know the local coordinates of the vertices of the
pyramid that is shown in the section “Postprocess results format:
ProjectName.post.res” of the user manual. Only the coordinates of the
internal Gauss points are shown there. I need to know those coordinates
in order to transform the local coordinates of the Gauss points of my
solver to the local coordinates used by GiD. The local coordinate system
is not also shown, contrary to the other element shapes.

Thank you in advance,
