Import formats that support geometry and mesh

Post by cesaire »

Hello all,

I'd like to try generating meshes for my finite element problem on a third party software. My problem is a solid made of different materials with one continuous mesh. I will need to assign each material with different properties.

If I only import the mesh, I won't be able to assign material properties to the mesh (I can't use gid layers here or select the elements by hand).

So I am looking for a way to import a mesh and a geometry in a way that will allow me to assign material properties. Is it possible? If so, with which file formats?

The classic GiD materials or conditions appear when loading a problemtype that define them (its names and fields)
e.g. you can load the problemtype Examples->Cmas2d
menu: Data->Problemtype->Examples->Cmas2d
and then can open the window
Data->Materials
and assign the existing materials, create new ones derived
Note: these materials have only a density field, that is the only value needed for this demo
but the geometry/mesh will have an integer index of the material that probably is what you want (e.g. this material index is printed in the Export->GiD mesh format)
