Hello,
I wonder how is gid successfull about creating midsurface from solids and creating shell mesh for thin solid structures like plastic or welded steel parts.
Could you please provide me an example?

No, GiD doesn't has this feature

No, there are no plans to implement it at short or mean time.
It is a geometric feature very hard to be implemented properly.
