Hi,

I started modelling with FeniCS, an open source FEM solver. FeniCS supports the following mesh formats:
* .xml DOLFIN XML format
* .ele / .node Triangle file format
* .mesh Medit format, generated by TetGen with option -g
* .msh / .gmsh Gmsh version 2.0 format
* .grid Diffpack tetrahedral grid format
* .inp Abaqus tetrahedral grid format
* .e / .exo Sandia Exodus II file format
* .ncdf ncdump’ed Exodus II file format
* .vrt/.cell Star-CD tetrahedral grid format
Can GiD export in one of these?

By the way, I use to completely reinstall my (Linux) operating system more or less once a year. If I purchase a GiD license, will I be able to register the license straightforwardly after reintallation?

We don't directly export any of these formats, but it is very easy to write a simple .bas template to let GiD write the mesh and other data in one of this formats
writting a simple text file with extension .bas located in the \templates GiD folder, and it will appear in the menu Files-Export-Using template...
(you can see other .bas files as example)

or maybe could create a full FeniCS GiD problemtype to handle all data, incluing boundary condition and writting the native FeniCS format

I think that you can use the Abaqus format, get the Abaqus problemtype from the menu Data-Problemtypes-Internet retrieve...
and use its calculation file to input for FeniCS

Reinstalling Linux the sysinfo of GiD for the local password could change (maybe reinstalling with exactly the same partitions the sysinfo doesn't change, but I am not sure)
In any case, other option is to buy a 'portable licence', attached to a memory stick. Then you can use GiD in the machine where you plug it (Linux, Windows or Mac OS X)
