Hi,
I am trying to create a mesh for a volume with a curved surface. I am
having the following geometry which I created via rotating 3-point arc by
180 deg (so basically I am having 1 complete cylinder + a spherical cap
which is a small part of a sphere + rest of the body)

I created this geometry by rotating the following by 180 deg about its axis-

But GID fails to create a mesh, displaying an error saying faces intersect
as shown below (which I don't think they do)

Is there a way to get around this to mesh curved volumes in GID? Basically
my goal is to represent a curved crack front which I am representing via
the spherical cap.

[GiDlist] Specifying mesh orientation in GID
Hi,
Do we have a control over the orientation of tetrahedral mesh elements
created by GID. As I see, GID creates a specific orientation of the
tetrahedral elements by default. ( Referring to structured mesh only)
For example, GID creates the following mesh when I mesh it with tetrahedral
elements.

As we can see, the orientation of elements changes around the mid-plane of
the geometry. Is there a way to change this orientation and have a more
consistent one like in the figure below-

There is one other 'setting' under preferences of structured mesher in GID
which doesn't help either.

It is not possible to control the ‘splitting diagonal’ of structured triangles or tetrahedral.
The only think that you can do is to set the flag ‘Symmetrical structured’ for Tetrahedra (in meshing preferences), then an extra node is create in the center of the ‘structured box’ and then the mesh become more symmetrical.
E.g. for example, in case of triangles without and with symmetrical flag:

Hello,
Unfortunatelly you cannot control the orientation of the structured tetras. The only option is to set the ‘Symetrical structured’ option in the Preferences-Meshing window, which will lead to a different configuration of tetras which is symmetrical. In the other hand, it produces a higher number of elements.

I was just wondering why GID prefers one diagonal over the other for some
element and the other oriented diagonal for some other element, is this
rule arbitrary or is there a
built in predictive algorithm?

It is based in the nodes numbering in the moment of the mesh generation, so the user has no control on it.

Asunto: [GiDlist] Specifying mesh orientation in GID
Hi,
Do we have a control over the orientation of tetrahedral mesh elements created by GID. As I see, GID creates a specific orientation of the tetrahedral elements by default. ( Referring to structured mesh only)
For example, GID creates the following mesh when I mesh it with tetrahedral elements.

As we can see, the orientation of elements changes around the mid-plane of the geometry. Is there a way to change this orientation and have a more consistent one like in the figure below-

There is one other 'setting' under preferences of structured mesher in GID which doesn't help either.
