[GiDlist] Meshing curved volumes
Hi,
I am trying to mesh a simple geometry of the form of a spherical cap (
created by rotating an arc about its axis) but GID shows up some meshing
error. Creating spherical caps from boolean operations don't work either.
Here's how my geometry looks like-

It was created by rotating this surface around it own axis (bounded by an
arc and a line)-

As we can see, it shows up error saying 'two faces intersect'. Is there any
other way to mesh such volumes?

Try to fix some geometrical problem with Utilities-Repair
Try to set all default meshing option. In utilities preferences meshing press the Reset button
If it continue without mesh trying a reasonable mesh size then attach a zip with your model to have a look

[GiDlist] Meshing curved volumes
Hi,
I tried the repair geometry option which just says "everything was ok" but
fails to mesh. I created my volume by rotating a 2-d curved surface about
its own axis. (which retains the original 2-d surface and creates extra
points and lines which I have to collapse later)
I have attached a zip file containing the simple model -
"nov13_curvedvol_original.gid" - volume created by the rotation which GID
fails to mesh. Could you tell me what else could be wrong in this one? I am
running 12.1.1d version of GID.
In another attempt, "nov13_curvedvol_mod.gid" - I wanted to get rid of
extra surfaces, lines and points so I deleted the original 2-d surface and
the extra lines and tried reconstructing the volume which gives out an
error. This file just has the curved surface and it's base surface (which
ideally should represent a bounded domain)

I need to know whether the GID software can use for deep excavation
analysis.
Could it able to work with following parameters;
*Defining soil parameters like;
- Mohr Coulomb and Hardening soil Model
- drain and undrain analysis
- C,phi,dialatency properties
- water level and etc.
*Stage constructions parameters and ect.
I am a beginner for this software and I am looking for analysis the deep

GiD itself don’t include any kind of simulation solver.
Simulation solvers are called ‘problemtypes’ in GiD terms (are like GiD-plugins for an specific calculation)
You can use for free code_bright, that is a geotechnical code developed at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

Hi,
I am trying to mesh a simple geometry of the form of a spherical cap (
created by rotating an arc about its axis) but GID shows up some meshing
error. Creating spherical caps from boolean operations don't work either.
Here's how my geometry looks like-

It was created by rotating this surface around it own axis (bounded by an
arc and a line)-

As we can see, it shows up error saying 'two faces intersect'. Is there
any other way to mesh such volumes?

[GiDlist] Fwd: Meshing curved volumes
I rebuild your shape avoiding the parametrization problems of your model and it could be meshed without problems.
You have created the extruded surface rotating a curve 180º that cross the rotation axis,
I created the same shape, but dividing the curve and deleting half part, and rotating 360º.
If fact it will be less problematic creating two surfaces not closed (with a rotation of 180º and multiple copies=2 in the copy window)
And the lower plane will be less problematic creating a planar surface by its boundary, avoiding the creation by rotation
(the poles of a surface of rotation are problematic, because this degenerated points have zero derivative in one parametric direction)

Would you suggest trying out some other version for GID for the meshing issue of the curved geometry I created?

If it continue without mesh trying a reasonable mesh size then attach a zip with your model to have a look
