[GiDlist] Boolean operations for volumes

Post by amit Dhankhar »

Hi,

I am trying to create a cylindrical hole using a boolean operation in GID.
I am having a simple cubic geometry (so I have 2 volumes- 1 cube and 1
cylinder which completely lies inside the cube)

[image: Inline image 6][image: Inline image 7]

I am simply using geometry - edit - boolean op. for volumes to subtract
the cylindrical volume from the cubical volume. But, this operation does
not create a cylindrical hole in the cubical domain but instead it's doing
something very strange like what the right figure shows (with an info
window saying volumes not closed). Is there something I am missing here for
the boolean operation to work in GID?

Thanks!

[GiDlist] Boolean operations for volumes

Boolean operations are too hard and not very robust. Try to avoid its use in GiD.

You can create easily your model without any boolean operation, e.g. create a square surface with a circular hole, and then use copy with extrusion to create your volume.
