Unrecognized Structured Volumes!

Post by kasra_utop »

I have this 3D dam-res-foundation model, and I would like to mesh it all in hexahedral elements. Each of dam, reservr and foundation are divided into several simple 6-face volumes in order to assure that they won't be detected as unstructured volumes.

Despite all that, GiD doesn't recognize the volumes as structured, while some volumes are literally cubes! I've checked for isolated geometry (if that's any relevant) and model is clean. I need to say meshing works fine with tetra elements, but it's only hexa elements that seem to be having problem.

I've searched the forum for similar issues and fixes, but none addresses my concern.

Model is attached as a zip file.

Please let me know if you need any more info.

Regards.

Remove all meshing information and assign again, do this:
Mesh->Reset mesh data
then set on all layers (to not miss selecting in screen entities on layers off)

Mesh->Structured volumes->Assign size to volume lines
set for example size=50.0 to all lines

Mesh->Elem type->Hexahedra
and generate the mesh

Note: your model has some points that don't belong to lines, probably can delete them to avoid extra isolated nodes.
