[GiDlist] Pixelated fonts, GiD GUI

Hi all;

This is only a minor irritation, but perhaps someone can provide some help?

Does anyone know of a way to make the GiD GUI fonts look smoother under
Linux? I’ve attached a very small screenshot to show what I mean, it’s
the “Sure, leaving postprocess” fonts that I’m writing about.

I searched for this and the best I could get was to use themed Tk widgets,
i.e., Tile, but as I understand, this is only possible for Tk 8.5. GiD uses
8.4.9, right? Does this mean I have to live with it for now?

I’m using the latest stable version of GiD and Kubuntu 7.10.

Cheers,

Hello,

GiD inherits all the fonts capabilities from TK and TK inherits
them from X11.

Tile is related to the look of the widgets but not to the fonts.

The difference in TK8.5 related to fonts is that it now uses the
anti-aliased text under X11, a font engine from X11 that provides
higher qualities fonts.

Next GiD version will use TK8.5 and will take advantage of them.

In the meanwhile, GiD can use any font that you have installed
in X11. You can choose them in:

Utilities-Preferences-Fonts

Thanks for the quick reply. Just one more question with regards to this:
Will we be able to use themed widgets with the next release of GiD?

You can use themed widgets in your own windows already with GiD 8.
It is only necessary that you include package tile and make a

package require tile

before beginning to use it.
