As you said this is a temporary solution for you, but not enough elegant, because you are disabling the use of ramdebugger.
I think that you can simply comment the line
bgerror "ramdebugger not available: $err_txt"
to avoid raise an error in case of problems opening the socked for the debugger. GiD will works well but without this feature.
Please, confirm if commenting only this line it works well in your case (probably next GiD versions have this change)
